This pertinent topic is graciously presented by Carrie Schirato and April Horton. Get to know Carrie below:

Carrie Schirato is first and most importantly a wife and a mother of 5 amazing kiddos. She has always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie and a people lover, so it’s really no surprise that she has been working in the Emergency Department since 2005. She graduated from Baylor University (Sic’em) with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and completed a dual master’s certification as a Family and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at Arlington.

She spent a decade working at Baylor University Medical Center, a level one trauma center in Dallas Texas, and that is where her eyes really became open to the intersection between healthcare and human trafficking.  After spending a large portion of her career missing opportunities to help those who are victims of modern-day slavery, she is now equipped to recognize, respond and report victims of human trafficking in healthcare and educate her own profession. Carrie would describe her life as being personally and professionally changed forever because of Survivors whom she encountered while working in the Emergency Department. In 2017 she co-founded Reclaim611, an antihuman trafficking non-profit in Plano Texas, and serves as Executive Director.

Carrie is also the Owner of Reclaim Healthcare and Wellness PLLC, and is on mission with her team to build a practice that not only serves the community but also provides Survivors of Human Trafficking an environment where they can receive the trauma informed healthcare that they deserve!

Carrie’s life motto is “When you stand up for one life you never know the kind of ripple effect of love that will follow”
