Posted 2 days ago by Robert Castillo Jr
Dear Nursing Leader,
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to learn verbal de-escalation skills using virtual reality? Are you a nursing leader wanting to practice verbal de-escalation skills? You are invited to participate in a quality improvement project conducted by Mary Vitullo MBA, MSN, RN, CV-BC, NE- BC, CLSSBB, student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Leadership, Systems, and Policy Program at Yale University. The purpose of the quality improvement project is to improve self-efficacy of nursing leaders in handling episodes of Verbal Workplace Violence (V-WPV) by allowing leaders to practice de-escalation skills in a virtual reality environment. The simulation has minimal risk of causing any psychological triggers.
The education is two-pronged. There will be an educational tool to be reviewed prior to an in-person simulation via PowerPoint and then an in-person simulation. The project will have the following expectations of the participant: completion of pre-education self-efficacy questions, review of pre-work, then an in-person simulation, followed by post-self-efficacy questions, and a program evaluation. Total estimated time is one hour.
The online pre-work education must be completed prior to attending the in-person simulation. The in-person simulations will be conducted at Frisco Library, 8000 Dallas Parkway, Frisco, Texas, 75034 prior to 7/14/2025. If more times are needed, there will be an additional week from 7/14/2025-7/20/2025. The participants will sign up for one in-person simulation followed by completion of self-efficacy questions and a program evaluation. Total in-person education is expected to be 30 minutes in length. To be eligible for the project, you must be an inpatient nursing leader with one of the following titles: Team Lead/Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Manager, or Director. Enrollment is now open. To enroll, please contact Mary Vitullo at mary.vitullo@yale.edu by 7/7/2025. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mary Vitullo MBA, MSN, RN, CV-BC, NE-BC, CLSSBB
